- CBS reported Trump saying Iran is "ready to fold up," and again threatened attacks after the midterms. This repeats the 1 October statements rather than adding to them.
Confirmed - Open question for the day: whether the reported US counter-proposal through Qatar produces a formal Iranian reply. Nothing confirmed at the time of writing.

- The New York Times reported, via UA News, that Russia may be preparing a large winter campaign against Ukraine's energy and water systems using up to 1,000 missiles, drones and aerial bombs. Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa are named as the main targets, with the aim of cutting electricity in those cities by about 90% and heat by up to 90%. This is a report of Russian planning, not a confirmed order.
Developing - Zelensky said a further Russian overnight attack targeted energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region and caused fatalities. Details were limited at the time of writing.

ASSESSMENT#
The NYT planning report matters because it describes what the 30 September strike may have been the start of. If accurate, the targeting goal (cutting power and heat to the main cities by around 90%) would make this winter's campaign harsher than last year's, and it fits Russian statements and the scale of recent strikes. This desk holds it at Developing because it is a single reported assessment of intentions.
On Iran, nothing new happened early on the 2nd beyond repetition. The index held steady and this desk is not inventing movement.
